A new deep mine in North York Moors National Park to mine polyhalite (an organic fertiliser), the construction of a 37km tunnel to transport the polyhalite from the mine to a material handling facility and new harbour in Teesside.
The York Potash Project is the largest privately funded infrastructure investment in the UK. Different elements of the project involved different consenting routes. Morag advised on all the principal consents which comprise planning permissions for the mine, tunnel and material handling facility, obtained from the North York Moors Planning Authority and Redcar Borough Council. This involved an extremely complex s.106 agreement. A Development Consent Order for the new harbour was obtained from the Secretary of State for Transport. Morag advised on all aspects of the DCO process and appeared on behalf of Sirius Minerals plc at the Examination hearings.
Construction of the mine, tunnel and material handling facility are underway.
